Reuse before recycling

Donate working and reusable items at Daventry

Every West Northamptonshire HWRC has a reuse drop-off service. Site staff assess whether an item can be passed on rather than discarded.

Working electrical items

Electrical items should be in working order if offered for reuse.

Upholstered furniture

Reusable sofas, chairs and clean mattresses need the appropriate fire-safety label.

Damaged upholstered seating

Keep the item whole. Tape tears or cover damage with plastic to stop foam or fabric escaping.

Where items are sold

Reusable items are mainly sold through the Sixfields and Farthinghoe reuse shops.

Daventry HWRC site rules

Prepare safely and avoid being refused

Pre-sort the vehicle

Keeping material categories together makes the visit faster and sends more waste for recycling.

Bring only manageable items

Staff do not provide general lifting assistance. Bring another person for heavy waste where needed.

Request protected-characteristic help

Indicate the assistance requirement in the booking form. Supporting evidence may be requested.

Keep children and animals inside

Children and pets should remain in the vehicle outside designated reuse-shop areas.

Wear safe clothing

Use gloves, closed footwear and clothing suitable for handling rough or sharp waste.

Follow the booked time

The ANPR barrier may not open if you arrive much earlier or later than the appointment.

Do not bring trade waste

A free household booking can be refused if the load came from commercial or paid activity.

Cancel unused appointments

Use the confirmation-email link and cancel at least 24 hours before the visit where possible.

Daventry local tips

Small details that make the visit easier

Do not queue before opening

Arriving far before the booked time can obstruct Browns Road and does not guarantee early entry.

Keep documents near the driver

Do not bury the booking reference, permit number or hire agreement underneath the waste load.

Separate reusable items first

Tell staff about reusable furniture or working electrical items before unloading them into recycling containers.

Use Daventry for gas bottles

Daventry is one of only three West Northants HWRCs listed for household gas bottles and fire extinguishers.

Keep plasterboard clean

Tiles, fixings, wood and brick contamination can cause the plasterboard load to be refused.

Do not dismantle sofas

Keep upholstered seating intact and contain damaged fabric or foam before transport.
