Loose, not bagged
Paper/card, plastics/cans/cartons and garden waste should go loose in the correct bin. Bagging recyclable material can cause it to be treated as contamination.
Rinse and squash
Cans, cartons and plastic containers should be emptied and rinsed. Squashing bottles and containers gives more room in the blue bin.
Food packaging is not food waste

Falkirk brown bin permit: cost, dates and rules
The brown bin is for garden waste only. If you want Falkirk to empty a brown bin, the bin must display a valid permit. One permit is needed for each brown bin.
2026/2027 permit cost
Falkirk lists the current annual charge as £45.00 per bin for the 2026/2027 garden waste service. Eligible residents receiving means-tested Council Tax Reduction can receive a 50% discount.
