Newcastle bin colours: blue, green and brown rules

Missed Newcastle bin collection: report only after the right checks
Newcastle asks residents to report a missed bin the day after the scheduled collection because route maps and vehicle tracking update overnight. The form can also show reported problems for your street.

Crews work from 6:30am to 4:30pm and tracking updates overnight, so do not submit a normal missed-bin report on the same day.

If your bin was partly emptied or tagged, the problem may be jammed waste, over-squashed contents, locks, ropes or contamination. In many cases, the council will not return until your next scheduled collection.

Too much waste for your bin: side waste and penalty risk
Newcastle says it does not collect bags or recycling left next to bins. If your bin is overloaded, too heavy or does not tip out easily, it may not be emptied.
No side waste
Do not leave extra bags beside the bin. Newcastle says no side waste will be collected, and loose waste next to a bin may lead to a penalty from £75 to £200.
Heavy-bin sensors

Brown garden waste collection 2026: paid seasonal service
Newcastle’s brown bin is for the paid garden waste service. It is not the main recycling bin. If you join at the beginning of the scheme, the service provides 20 brown-bin collections from spring to late autumn.
