Ware Household Waste Recycling Centre: Opening Times, ePass & Rules

Check Ware tip rules before you load the vehicle

Use this Ware Household Waste Recycling Centre guide to check opening times, ePass rules, car/van/trailer access, DIY waste limits, asbestos booking, queue cam, reuse shop and the exact official link you need.

The main mistake is confusing “booking” with “ePass”. For a normal visit, you usually do not book a time slot — but the vehicle still needs the correct ePass.

I need to…

Pick the job. Read the short rule first, then click the official page beside that exact step.

Check Ware is open Current published hours are 10am–5:30pm daily, except Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Open live centre page
Get a car ePass Car visits need a free ePass. It is not a time-slot booking. Apply for car ePass
Use a van or trailer Hertfordshire residents need van/trailer ePass. It gives 12 visits in 12 months. Van/trailer ePass rules
Use a hired van Bring ePass confirmation, hire agreement and proof of address. Hired van ePass lasts 7 days. Check hire vehicle rule
Check an item If your item is not obvious, use the official A–Z before loading. Open A–Z item checker
Bring DIY waste Limit is two 50L rubble bags or one qualifying bulky fitting. Read DIY limits
Dispose of asbestos Do not go yet. Ware asbestos is booked Mondays only, one bag, max 20kg. Book asbestos route
Donate reusable items Use Bay 16 or the Reuse Shop route. Keep good items separate. Check reuse shop

Booking vs ePass: the part most people confuse

Most Ware visits are not time-slot bookings. You still need the right ePass before entering. Asbestos is the big exception because it must be booked in advance.

Your situation Booking needed? ePass needed? Correct next click
Normal car visit No time slot. Yes, car ePass. Apply for car ePass
Van, pick-up or trailer No time slot. Yes, van/trailer ePass. Apply for van/trailer ePass
Hired van No time slot. Yes, plus hire agreement. Read hire vehicle ePass rule
Asbestos Yes, Ware Monday slot. Yes if visiting by vehicle. Book asbestos slot
Business or trade waste Household route not allowed. Household ePass not valid. Use commercial waste route
Plain answer: for a normal Ware tip visit, do not search for a “booking slot”. Search for the correct Hertfordshire recycling centre ePass.

ePass rules in plain English

The ePass is linked to your vehicle registration and address. Hertfordshire says you do not need to print or display anything because ANPR cameras identify registered vehicles.

If you are using a car

Apply for a free car ePass before you leave. It is normally available instantly and is linked to the vehicle registration and address.

If you are using a van, pick-up or trailer

Apply for a van/trailer ePass. It is valid for 12 visits in 12 months, and each visit is counted. There are no exceptions after the visits are used.

If you are using a hired van

Bring the ePass confirmation email, hire agreement and proof of address. A hired van ePass is valid for 7 days and allows up to 3 visits.

If you are from Essex

Ware accepts Council Tax payers from Hertfordshire and Essex. Essex visitors need an ePass and proof of address, and Essex residents may only use a car at Hertfordshire sites.

If you arrive without an ePass

Staff may help you apply on site only if you have proof of address. Without ePass and proof, expect to leave and return later.

Bring proof even if you have an ePass: Hertfordshire lists examples such as driving licence, Council Tax bill, Hertfordshire bus pass or utility bill.

DIY waste: measure before you drive

Hertfordshire accepts limited DIY/home-improvement waste from your own small household work. Paid builder waste is not allowed through the household route.

Free limit

No more than two 50 litre rubble bags, or one bulky item no larger than 2000mm × 750mm × 700mm.

4

Frequency limit

DIY waste must not be so frequent that you need more than 4 visits over a 4-week period.

🛁

One bulky item examples

One bath or sink, one toilet or bidet, one kitchen cupboard/sink/worktop, one door, one fence panel or one window frame.

💷

Over the limit

If it does not fit the free conditions, use the chargeable business waste drop-off service at Ware or Welwyn Garden City, or a licensed contractor.

Common refused load: tiles, rubble, plasterboard, sink, toilet and doors from one renovation may exceed the free allowance. Measure and separate before travelling.

Asbestos: do not go without a booking

Ware accepts small quantities of household bonded white asbestos only by prior booking. Ware slots are Mondays only. No booking means no disposal.

Confirm the asbestos type

It must be bonded white asbestos, also called chrysotile. If unsure, use a private contractor to identify or remove it.

Check the limit

Hertfordshire residents can bring 1 bag per visit, maximum 20kg, once per household within 12 months.

Package it properly

Use UN-approved asbestos packaging: red inner bag with asbestos warnings, clear outer bag, sealed securely with tape. Black bags or torn packaging will be refused.

Book the Monday slot

Book in advance before loading. Booking slots are 30 minutes, so arrive promptly.

Report to the weighbridge

When you arrive, report to the weighbridge and follow staff instructions. Staff will not carry or handle asbestos for you.

Do not bring: business asbestos, non-white asbestos, more than 20kg, more than one bag, black bin bags, torn packaging or asbestos removed by a trade contractor.

Ware Reuse Shop: keep good items out of waste

Ware Reuse Shop is listed as Hertfordshire’s largest reuse shop. It offers furniture, bikes, mirrors, pictures, games, musical instruments and craft supplies.

🛍️

Shop opening days

Ware Reuse Shop is listed as open Saturday to Wednesday, 10am–5:30pm, and closed Thursday and Friday.

📦

Drop-off point

Drop off reuse items at Bay 16 inside Ware Recycling Centre, or ask a staff member if unsure.

🎨

Free paint

Community RePaint may offer donated paint for Hertfordshire residents and community groups. Stock is not guaranteed.

🚗

Parking clue

The official reuse page says Ware Reuse Shop and its 10 dedicated parking spaces are on your left as you enter the site.

Before loading: put clean reusable goods near the boot door. Do not place reusable furniture under rubble, paint tins or black bags.
