Plan your Sixfields recycling-centre visit before the booking barrier
Northampton Sixfields Household Waste Recycling Centre is not a “just turn up and unload” site. You need the right booking, the right vehicle details, and sometimes an e-permit before the ANPR barrier will let the visit run smoothly.

Book online 24/7. Bookings can be made up to 2 weeks ahead and up to 30 minutes before visiting, subject to availability.
Select the correct site and vehicle
Choose Sixfields, then enter your name, email, postal address, vehicle registration, vehicle type, vehicle colour and e-permit number if needed.
Pick the right slot length
Cars use 15-minute slots. Vehicles that require an e-permit use 30-minute slots.
Arrive inside the time window
A 10am car slot means arrival between 10am and 10:15am. If you arrive much earlier or later, the ANPR barrier may not open.
Change or cancel if plans change
Use the link in your confirmation email. The council asks visitors to cancel as soon as possible and at least 24 hours before the visit so someone else can use the slot.

Do you need an e-permit?
An e-permit is free, but it is not optional for the vehicles listed by the council. The permit scheme limits commercial-type vehicles and trailers to 6 visits over a 12-month period.

DIY waste limits: check your free allowance
DIY waste includes building, renovation, bathroom, kitchen, flooring, timber, rubble, soil, turf and similar project waste from your home or garden. Staff may ask you to confirm it came from your normal residence.
Small cars
Small cars can make 8 free DIY waste trips per 2 months, which the council defines as 60 days.
Large cars and similar vehicles
Large cars, estates, MPVs, people carriers, 4x4s without pick-up and passenger-use campervans/minibuses can make 4 free DIY waste trips per 2 months.
E-permit vehicles
Vans, pick-ups, crew cabs, certain trailers and other commercial-type vehicles can make 6 free trips per 12 months with an e-permit.
Over the free limit
If you need more visits than permitted, the council may direct you to a weighbridge site and treat the extra material as chargeable trade waste.

Plasterboard: clean it before the slot
Plasterboard can be refused if it is mixed with other materials. Sort it at home, not beside the container.
Usually acceptable
Plasterboard with wallpaper or paint is accepted. Foil-backed plasterboard is also accepted.
Remove before travelling
Remove wood, tiles, bricks, breeze blocks, batting, fixings, bags and wrappers before you go.
Asbestos: do not take it to Sixfields HWRC
Asbestos and asbestos-bonded materials cannot be disposed of at any West Northamptonshire recycling centre. Small quantities of bonded asbestos from household maintenance use a separate Brackmills waste transfer station scheme.
Call before you travel
Phone 01604 347660 before visiting the Brackmills waste transfer station to check capacity. If you do not call first, your waste may be refused.
Use the correct site
The asbestos scheme uses Waste Transfer Station, Liliput Road, Brackmills Trading Estate, Northampton, NN4 7DT.
Wrap each piece correctly
Each bonded asbestos sheet or pipe must be wrapped in clear thick-gauge polythene and sealed with tape. Maximum length per piece is 1.8 metres.
Check limit and charge
Examples include up to 5 sheets of 900mm × 1.80m for £86.50, up to 9 metres of pipe/guttering for £86.50, and one asbestos water tank for £70.18. One trip per household is permitted.
Reuse shop: no HWRC booking needed for browsing
The Sixfields Charity Reuse Shop is operated with Cynthia Spencer Hospice. For buying or browsing, follow the dedicated Reuse Lane rather than booking a recycling-centre slot.

Donation check
Clean, safe, reusable furniture, toys and household items may be suitable. Upholstered furniture needs the correct fire label for charity reuse.
Load it last
Keep reusable items near the boot opening so staff can assess them before they get damaged by rubble, paint or wet waste.
Trade and excess waste: use the paid service
Sixfields and Ecton Lane offer a paid small trade waste service. Use it for small-scale traders, residents with excessive DIY waste and non-residents who cannot use the free household route.
Use the right time
The trade waste service is available Monday to Friday during normal operating hours, 10am–4pm. The council suggests visiting later in the day where possible.
Bring duty-of-care proof
Traders may be asked for a valid waste carrier licence or exemption. You may be refused if you cannot show the correct documents.
Pre-sort before arriving
Your vehicle is weighed on arrival and again after unloading. Charges depend on weight and material type.
Bring card, not cash
Payment is by chip-and-pin credit or debit card. Cash is not accepted.
