Rubble, soil, plasterboard and home-improvement waste
The free household service is for small DIY projects completed by the householder. Waste produced by a paid builder or tradesperson is commercial waste.
| DIY rule | Free household allowance | Important caution |
|---|---|---|
| Bagged DIY material | Up to two 50-litre rubble bags in one qualifying visit. | Separate rubble, soil and plasterboard into the correct containers. |
| One bulky fitting | One item such as a bath, sink, toilet, door, worktop, window frame or fence panel. | Maximum bulky-item size restrictions apply. |
| Paid building work | Not accepted as free household DIY waste. | The contractor should arrange lawful commercial disposal. |
| Repeated visits | DIY disposal is monitored through the ePass. | Excess or frequent waste may be charged or refused. |
| Over the allowance | Use the paid business-waste drop-off or a licensed contractor. | Check charges before travelling. |
Planning tip: measure bulky bathroom and kitchen fittings before loading. Large or multiple renovation loads should use a skip or licensed waste contractor.
