How to check your Renfrewshire bin collection dates
Renfrewshire’s calendar is address-based. Nearby houses, flats, sack-collection homes, rural properties and communal-bin buildings can have different arrangements, so do not copy a neighbour’s bin unless your address result matches.

Renfrewshire bins not collected today: report, wait or fix?
Renfrewshire says collection takes place between 7am and 6:30pm. Do not report a missed bin before 6:30pm. Normal missed-bin reports must be made within 2 days; assisted-collection residents have 14 days.

Confirm that the correct colour was due at your exact address. If it was the wrong colour or wrong day, do not report it as missed.

The crew may still arrive later in the day. Reporting before the collection window ends can waste time.
Look for a refusal reason
Common reasons include late presentation, open lid, overfilled bin, heavy bin, unsuitable items, missing brown-bin garden permit, bad weather, roadworks or blocked access.
Report within the correct deadline
Use the missed-bin form within 2 days. If the council helps you take your bins out, use the 14-day missed-bin reporting window.
Garden waste permit 2026/27: price, deadlines and terms
The garden permit is the biggest paid-bin question for Renfrewshire searches. It is for garden waste in the brown bin. Food waste can still be collected through the brown bin or outdoor food caddy route where your property is eligible.

Food waste caddy rules
Food waste is not the same as garden waste. Renfrewshire provides an indoor caddy and annual liner supply, but the outside container depends on whether your address uses a brown bin or an outdoor food caddy.
Food allowed
Cooked and uncooked food, fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds, eggshells, out-of-date food with packaging removed, solid dairy products, meat, fish, small bones and pet food.
Keep out
Plastic bags, packaging, liquids, fats, cooking oils, plastics, cans, glass, paper, card, cardboard and garden waste.
How to use it
Put food waste in the indoor caddy. Tie the liner when almost full, then place it in the brown bin or outdoor food caddy, depending on your address.
If you are not on a food route
If your property is not on a food waste collection route, Renfrewshire says food waste cannot be collected. Consider home composting where suitable or use general waste for remaining food waste.
Bulky waste collection: costs, POPs and preparation
Use bulky waste collection for large household items that cannot fit in your bins. Renfrewshire also points residents to reuse and donation routes before booking collection.

Upholstered items need separation
Sofas, sofa cushions, sofa beds, armchairs, dining chairs, stools, footstools, office chairs, futons, bean bags, floor cushions and electrical recliners should be kept separate from other waste.
Cut and bundle long items
Carpets, trees, branches and wood should be cut to 4 feet or shorter. Bundles should be tied and light enough for one person to carry. Hammer in or remove protruding nails.
Fridge/freezer warning
Renfrewshire does not collect American-style fridge freezers as bulky waste because of their size. Use a household recycling centre route instead.
No changes or refunds
Renfrewshire says you cannot change a bulky order once placed and refunds are not processed after payment is received.
Free help to take your bins out
This service is for residents who cannot put bins out because of a physical or medical condition and do not have anyone able to help in the household aged 14 or over.

Renfrewshire has 5 household waste recycling centres. Cars can use the centres without a vehicle permit, but larger vehicles are only accepted at Linwood with a free permit.

DIY waste limits
DIY waste is treated as non-household waste. Non-recyclable DIY waste is limited to 2 x 50-litre bags at all HWRCs. Plasterboard is not accepted at any Renfrewshire HWRC.
Linwood permit details
The free Linwood permit is valid for 1 day only and a maximum of 3 visits that day. The permit must be in the driver’s name and address.
